Interesting Times
March 26th, 2008 by MarionWith Canada set for flat growth at best the party is officially over and with Ontario’s budget announcement yesterday commentators have been weighing in with their views as to the pros and cons. No biases I’m sure (irony). What is clear is that the environment we are in or moving towards (depending on your view) is notably different from the past several years. The benefit of being over 40 is having been here before and as a professional communicator I understand that clear and direct communications will carry the day with both internal and external stakeholders more than ever. Leaders take note. I also understand that each economic cycle brings opportunities.

Hi Marion:
I couldn’t agree more. Both with your take on how being straight with stakeholders is more crucial in today’s economic enviroment now more than ever, and with the need for a bit of levity and historical perspective that only the wisdom of age can bring to the table.
I watched Ontario’s budget anouncement and resulting coverage from afar for the first time in years yesterday and was entirely uninspired and unimpressed by it’s content and strategic communications story.
I am a former Ministry of Finance communicator who decamped to a warmer climate - temperature and taxation - last year and am glad to have left when I did.
Having said that, there is no place like home, and Toronto is it for me. I am looking to relocate there within the next year and want to revitalize my career using my skills, experience and enthusiasm for compelling communication to their maximum.
I have emailed by resume to your HR contact and hope to set up a meeting with her or some folks there when I am in town next week.
