Twitter Does Maintenance During BlogHer 08
July 19th, 2008 by Katie GreenAndrew Foote, Andrew Silver and I are at BlogHer 08 Conference this weekend in San Francisco. It has been aware that posting to Twitter in 140-character format has been much more popular than full blog writing. Well, get back to your blogging roots ladies because Twitter’s Fail Whale is in FULL FORCE. I am not sure if Twitter planned this or they are just simply unaware of the popularity the application has among the women influencers online, but this is the most inopportune time for a shut-down.
If you look at the top Twitter search trends for the past 3 days, just under the new Batman movie is #BlogHer08. Moms are on Twitter, and I am honestly waiting for the day that mommybloggers go on strike against Twitter…and I have a feeling its coming soon.
‘The Andrews’ and I will be back a little later with conference updates, but for now, I can say that these women are amazing and the learning curve is steep. Be ready to step up.

Following form John Bell’s blog. I hope you made it out of SFO! My flight was delayed for five hours. Urgh.
I joined Twitter during my time at BlogHer. I had been trying to get things going over at Plurk, but the reality is that most of my friends are on Twitter. Don’t expect a Twitter strike any time soon; moms love it.
The women of BlogHer are amazing! Drop me a note through my blog if you want 20 minute’s worth of my $.02 on mom blogs.

Oops. I just realized Katie wrote the post. Andrea F was the one stuck in SFO with me.
Did you make that call to your mom?
And, while I’m writing, yes the first sentence in my comment above should read “Following from….”

Yes, have been guilty of tweeting in lieu of blogging.
Back in the saddle.

I’m sure it didn’t hurt that nearly all the syndication and traffic talk included fully utilizing Twitter… hmm… do you think maybe BlogHer is an influential force? YEAH BABY!

The hell, right? I mean, I could see if there was a problem but why *schedule* maintenance during blogher? Totally insane.

I find Twitter extremely annoying. The idea of company’s twittering to reach customers isn’t as clever as they may hope: all of their “updates” will be viewed with the same suspicion that any thinly veiled spam is. I use Twitter on one of my blogs as a very lazy way to add content. Moms are using it like crazy (and will for some time) because their lives are crazy and often somewhat isolated; they get to connect with friends and heard in less tan 30 seconds. 15 seconds if they have a Blackberry. When a business tweets, they’re doing so to the choir, their cult following, not to prospective customers.
